ANDREA RODRIGUEZwrote an article in the AP revealing what President Raul Castro said to President Obama as they shook hands at Mr. Mandela' services.
The infamous handshake that seems to have the World forgetting about basic courtesy and morals, speculating what the handshake meant and did not mean; many hating Mr. Obama for being a gentleman and civil and perhaps raising a lot of hope for "Black" Cubans, Castro was reported to have said that "brother Raul introduced himself to Obama in English, telling him", "Mr. President, I'm Castro".
Videl Castro continues to say that the handshake meant nothing as he congratulated his brother for being "steadfastness and dignity".
Both the USA and Cuba were crystal clear about the handshake merely being a courtesy disputing any speculations that the decades of animosity between the two World Powers has subsided and definitely was nothing but a civil handshake.
It boggles my mind that two country leaders can be honored friends of Mr. Mandela and cannot put their countries differences aside for not only one day but forever!
I certainly can appreciate Mr Castro's stand against the USA as he says, while Cuba backed the Angolan fighters in South Africa "who battled forces supported by the pro-apartheid South African government of the 1980's . He condemned the United States for supporting the opposing forces."
While it is true that the USA were supporters of apartheid in South Afrika, from our financial institutions to government and even our military, President Obama had nothing to do with that. In fact President Obama and his family have been recipients of racism that is still alive and thriving in the USA today! How does one process that? Perhaps this is why Mr Castro was civil towards our leader.
We cannot allow ignorance of the past to have an effect or negative change on our future. We have a long way to go still and South Afrika certainly has a long way to go before that undercurrent pull Afrikans back further into regression--A new kind of slavery--Industrialized Slavery!
This is why it is so important that the 'dull-hatchet" be buried now; Reparations must be made and pray that Hillary Clinton make in into the White House! It is certain that the USA need a strong non-biased person in the White House after Mr. Obama. This is the only way that we all will continue to make progress toward change and a better World.
